Scheduling an Appointment & What to Expect
Since I schedule my own appointments by talking with you on the phone, I am able to find the best available time for your appointment. This phone contact prior to your first session is an opportunity for you to briefly ask questions about me, how I practice and insurance. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about treatment options. In the initial appointment, we address the following:
• What Is Bringing You to Therapy at this Time • General Background Information to Help Me Get to Know You & Your Situation
• How You Have Attempted to Address These Concerns • Provide Education, Discuss Potential Resources & Options for Treatment • Begin Our Treatment Planning Process
My insurance guidelines are easy-to-understand. I am a provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield™ of Minnesota and, as part of my provider contract, I submit claims on your behalf. If your health insurance is with BCBS, please check with BCBS Customer Services before your first session to ensure that my practice is included within the BCBS network for your particular plan. At this time, I am considered an out-of-network provider for all other insurance plans. I am not a Medicare provider.
Please note that insurance only covers diagnosable conditions. Most policies do not cover marriage counseling. When couples or family therapy is covered, one person usually needs to have a diagnosable condition. You are responsible for payment, co-payment, or the deductible for each appointment at the time of service.
Payment in full is required at the time of each appointment; any unpaid balance accumulates interest and is then charged as such. If you choose to use the out-of-network option with your insurance plan, it is your responsibility to make sure that benefits are manageable for you and that I am covered under your policy. Sometimes your insurance company might require the release of information about your condition and treatment prior to offering coverage for my services. If you choose not to release this information and your insurance company denies payment, you then are responsible for payment in full for the services received.
Many of my clients use their Health Savings
Accounts (HSA) to pay for the client portion of the therapy bill. Clients with Medicare need to sign a
special informed consent and then self-pay for their therapy. If you choose to not use insurance and to self-pay, please do so at the time of service. In addition to HSA cards, I accept cash or checks and Visa or Master Card to make payments in person. Please feel free to ask me questions you might have to clarify these policies
Contact me today to schedule a psychotherapy appointment to start treatment and to inquire about my payment policies.
